Jerwood Pod, Young Vic

Jerwood Pod, Young Vic, London
Architects: Haworth Tompkins
Opened in June 2008

The Jerwood Foundation made a grant of £500,000 towards Phase II of the Young Vic's extensive redevelopment of its Lambeth site, including the Jerwood Pod. Like the award winning Phase I rebuild which was completed in 2006, Phase II was designed by Haworth Tompkins, the architects of the award winning Jerwood Theatres at the Royal Court and the Jerwood Kiln Studio at Aldeburgh Music. The Jerwood Pod was opened on 5 June 2008.

The Jerwood Pod provides further facilities for developing artists. It houses young theatre companies who join the Young Vic as Associates, becoming part of their producing and organisational life for an agreed period of time. The Associate Companies scheme aims to offer young companies the chance to develop by working with the Young Vic's artistic and executive directors. The scheme will aid a rolling roster of emerging companies.

Young Vic

The Young Vic was founded by Sir Lawrence Oliver in 1970 for the younger members of his newly formed National Theatre Company. Young directors, designers, actors, writers and technicians gathered to present the great works of the world repetoire alongside new plays in a relatively informal environment at the lowest possible seat prices. The Young Vic has become the country's leading home for younger theatre artists, especially directors.

The Young Vic's Jerwood Directors at the Young Vic award is supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
