The Jerwood Foundation and the Montgomery Sculpture Trust- Press Release

The Jerwood Foundation and the Trustees of the Montgomery Sculpture Trust are pleased to announce an agreement has been reached which will result in an accession of seven pieces of sculpture from the Montgomery Trust to the Jerwood Sculpture Collection at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. The seven works are:

Q&A              - Professor Bryan Kneale RA
Breath           - Slawomir Brzoska
Tondo            - Keith Milow
Nail VI           - Peter Logan
Ammonite II   - Dan Clemmett
Windbreak      - Zdenek Smid
Spine            - Zdenek Smid

Founded in 1994 by Bryan Montgomery to promote outdoor sculpture made by recently graduated artists from the UK, Russia, Eastern Europe and the former countries of the Soviet Union, The Montgomery Sculpture Trust was based in Buckinghamshire, UK. On its decision to close Curator Ken Newlan commented on behalf of the Montgomery Trustees, "The Trustees of Montgomery are pleased to have ensured that these important constituents of the Montgomery Sculpture Collection will continue to be exhibited for the benefit of the public and will also be included in the educational and cultural activities of the Jerwood Foundation, through which there will be a continued emphasis on supporting young sculptors at critical stages of their careers."

Alan Grieve, Chairman of the Jerwood Foundation, and Ken newlan, Curator of the Montgomery Sculptures emphasised the importance of the similar ethos underlying the visions of both collections was central to the accession of these works, whicgh will go on view to the public in 2010, following installation at the Jerwood Sculpture Collection at Ragley Hall. A further work, Black America by Joel Perlman, will be passing to the Jerwood Foundation and will be sited at the Jerwood Space in Southwark.

Now in its tenth year, the Jerwood Sculpture Collection is a major initiative of the Jerwood Foundation and  an important part of its wide-ranging support of the visual arts. From its beginning, the aim of Jerwood Sculpture has been to display large sculptures in the natural environment. Since 2004, the collection has been sited in the magnificent grounds and park of Ragley, home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Hertford. The enlarged Sculpture Collection at Ragley will go on view to the public in Spring 2010, following installation.
